This should be required playing for both fangame players and makers alike. For the players, you will find a well executed game in every aspect. A nice amount of stages, a lot of great references to other games, good gimmicks that are executed well, and well rounded boss fights. The production is beyond top tier (DOOM) and the stages are memorable.

For the makers out there, you should be taking notes. This game has that magic that makes people actually want to play fangames. It's great to watch, fun to play, and you won't forget it 10 minutes after it's over.

Easy, but super enjoyable game. These yearly fangame collabs are all really great and it was I Wanna Run The Marathon that got me into fangames.

It's a lot more polished than I Wanna Run The Marathon and every stage now has a major gimmick that changes the playstyle in a big way. This keeps the game fresh and surprising.

It's not that difficult, which I really appreciate, because it really isn't fun being stuck at the same checkpoint for 30 minutes or more. It isn't too easy either and I found a lot of the saves to be at the perfect difficulty.

Like every other fangame, there are a few questionable design choices that keeps it from being the perfect fangame. This is spoiler territory:

The Super Meat Boy stage uses the default IWBTG walljumping mechanic where you jump out from the wall by holding the jump button and moving away from the wall. If you want to immediatly jump away from the wall, you sometimes press away from the wall a frame or two before pressing jump, which just makes you fall down instead of jumping away from the wall. This is not intuitive at all, and was one of the major issues with IWBTG. A better altenative would have been to implement a walljump more similar to Super Meat Boy where you just have to press the jump button to jump away from the wall.

The end of the Super Meat Boy stage has a really long and tedious "boss fight", which becomes very boring after a few tries. Combined with the walljumping, makes this boss just not that fun.

The meta knight boss fight with the multiple abilities is a fine idea, but it's not implemented well. In its current state, it requires you to know which ability to pickup for each of his attacks. You aren't given enough time to get the necessary ability, unless you know what powerup to use beforehand. This makes it incredibly trial and error and results in some rather unfair deaths.

There are also some really great design choices that I would like to highlight as well

The final cherry boss has less HP in phase 1 once you get past phase 1. This was a great decision, because it shortens the fight and keeps the good stuff. It also makes the fight way less frustrating to beat.
There's no real use of named jumps such as corners, diagonals, dimonds and only a very light use of gates. Instead this game opts for gimmick based difficulty instead, which is really appreciated, because it makes the platforming interesting instead of boring.

In conclusion, this game is made to appeal to everyone and the low difficulty and impressive level design as well as interesting gimmicks, makes this one of my favorite fangames of all time. Good job ;)

I'm probably one of the few that didn't get a chance to see this game in action during FGM2017, so I went into this completely blind. I've also been around for nearly a year, but this is my first review. This is a game that I had to review, especially since some of its creators were kind enough to tell me about the work and passion that went into its creation. Anyway, let's get going shall we. \o/

For me, I can easily say this game was "fun". I kinda laugh at that statement as most of you that play fangames know, fun is truly in the eye of the beholder. However, this game is definitely something that can be fun for almost anyone. There is traditional needle, avoidance, bosses, and the classic formula of X screens then a boss. Mixed up in all this is gimmicks of varying degrees. Not all of them are something new, but they definitely add spice to the gameplay. All are representative of the world you find yourself in, in some way or another. It helps to draw you into being a part of "that world".

The difficulty is curvy-ish, typically it gets progressively more difficult. Some worlds kicked my butt and some bosses kicked my butt. It typically wasn't something I had to grind for an hour+ though. You will struggle in some places, but it's nothing that will end up as a grindfest.

Why is this not a 10 you ask? Well, it's not absolutely perfect. It can be frustrating in some parts and the difficulty isn't completely smooth (as I said before). One gimmick wasn't really explained thoroughly and will probably lead to some frustration for a while. One area in particular could take a toll on your fingers as it did mine. The areas were uneven in the amount of time they took up. I wanted more of some areas and less of others.I wasn't able to be completely pacifist (don't worry, I didn't detract much for that haha).

However, as far as flavor and production value goes, this is top notch. Music, sounds, graphics were all spot on. Controlling everything was as it should be, even in the areas that altered the controls a bit. Typically fangames have a few to some things they do right, but this one does nearly everything right. The creators definitely put their heart and soul into this game in one form or another. I could definitely say overall I enjoyed it and was laughing and having fun. It was even a treat for my viewers to watch. This fangame goes outside of the box on many things and the creators should definitely be proud of this. It was a breath of fresh air by far.

Do yourself a favor, play this fangame.
