This is an action-adventure fangame I've been working on since 2019. Featuring:
-A variety of gimmicks and enemies;
-Lots of references to other games and fangames(can you find them all?)
-Challenging bosses
-Completely original pixel art visuals
-And more!

Enjoy!

Collect the Pixels is an adventure game with a very interesting blend of classic and modern design, featuring a classic hub style set of stages with secrets and some followup.

Production is definitely its strong suit, especially the art. It has a very distinct, custom pixel art style that feels very consistent and clean. This feels like a core part of the game's identity and one of the things that stands out the strongest. Accompanying that is a very fitting music and sound design that definitely fit the theming. The simplistic, retro style of the audio makes it more noticeable when things are missing, and it definitely felt like there could've been a bit more in the sfx, but overall really strong.

Platforming wise, there's a good bit of variety and a lot of interesting segments. Tending to alternate between fighting enemies and utilizing the stage defining gimmick, with an occasional curveball segment thrown in - something I'm always a fan of. There were some beefs with cycles and enemy spawn points and design that felt awkward to me, but otherwise a lot of interesting parts and each stage felt very different and the problem segments were surely the minority. Lastly, there are secrets which are mostly indicated, but unfortunately if you miss one lack any real indication as to where or why. These are for a smaller 'extra' stage, which while it has some neat bonus stuff is not as of release related to a real additional ending or anything

Boss-wise, it was a bit more mixed for me, though I appreciate that every boss was very distinct style.

Overall, it has a lot of variety, which is a huge plus for me, and a lot going for it. I'm led to believe there's may be coming for the game, but for what exists, there's plenty to enjoy. It feels like its lacking a bit of final polish, with some of the expected QoL functionality (particularly secrets and the avoidance timer which disappears on death so its not super usable for the player being the big ones for me) but not ones that stop it from being a great adventure game to get a couple hours of gameplay out of. I'd recommend it if you like adventure games that have a bit of bite to them, as its definitely not a beginner game.

I usually cleared.

The atmosphere of the stage is very good.
All stages have a sense of unity and the BGM matches the atmosphere of the stage.

There is also a gimmick for each stage.
You can enjoy it along the way so that you won't get bored.

However, one thing I was concerned about is that the difficulty level is difficult to capture unless you are accustomed to action games to some extent.

Therefore, the difficulty level is for advanced users.
I think it's possible to clear it if you take the time, but I think it's very painful if you include the visuals and operations that are different from other series.

If the difficulty level is a little lower, I think that the number of players who will clear it and the number of players who will challenge it will increase.

I will never ever understand how games like this are so popular among people, I feel the same way I do about this game as I do about IDWBA2, in other words, I think this game is one of the biggest wastes of time someone could disservice themselves by experiencing. The majority of gameplay in this game is spent fighting enemies, and these enemies are genuinely atrocious to deal with, they block the way, shoot in annoying patterns usually aimed at you, and prevent you from dealing with actual interesting platforming. When the game drops the enemies it provides with decent gameplay, but that's not what most of your time will be spent doing. The game feels like learning a bunch of different sequences of annoying ass enemies which add absolutely nothing to the experience, it just slogs down the pace to a snails crawl. The bosses aren't much better, a lot of them are dead before you know it or just tedious, the final avoidance is the best part of the game but it's just okay, There's good elements to this game but at the end of the day, they are completely and utterly overpowered by content which is anti fun to me. I wish I understood why people like this game, or IDWBA2, because believe it or not, hating games isn't very fun. But until I understand that, I'm just baffled with this one.
