I loved freezemind. I would consider the first half, the part in a random order before the medley section to be one of the best experiences I have ever had playing a fangame. Not every section is perfect or even necessarily fun (although most of them are), but so incredibly varied in both visuals and gimmicks that it felt incredibly fun to play. Every area is given one core gimmick as well as a bunch of extra gimmicks inside of it. The sheer amount of variety in freezemind (for its length) is something I haven't really seen in any other fangame.
Also all of the sections in the first half are short and sweet, none of them overstay their welcome. The same cannot be said for the second half.
The bosses are also really good. Almost all of them have random attack order which I wish more fangames did, its such an easy and effective way of making it so you get to practice every part of the boss equally. I definitely do think the platforming is what stands out though, while the bosses are needed to break up the gameplay and help give you a good indicator of how far in the game you are, I don't know if any of them are unique gameplay wise in the same way the platforming is. They are still incredible though, and all of them have a really high production value.
I didn't enjoy the second half of the game as much as I did the first. It honestly feels like a completely different game, while the first half had sudoku elements the second half felt sudoku in that it was purposely low effort. While I feel like this can work, I don't feel like it works as well when it is really hard. Which some of the areas are. I will be going over my thoughts on each section from favorite to least favorite.
I Wanna Vibe With The Gods: This area was incredible, honestly the only medley section which I liked as much as the first half of the game. It felt like a lot of effort was put into this one, making a version of the vibe gods which didn't feel like it used sudoku as a crutch (not saying more effort should have been put into the other sections, but I would have preferred not having a boss / area if it is just going to be a joke, like the heavenly host section). Super fun and extremely well made.
Chungo's Gauntlet: The "Chungo's Gauntlet" section was really good. I have yet to play the original game, but I enjoyed it and it felt like a more toned down version of the first half of the game. I still preferred the first half, but this was still really fun.
I Wanna Journey Where the Wind Takes Me:
Pretty bland but still fun.
Heavenly Host: A sudoku version of the original heavenly host, although the gimmick kinda ruins it for me. I really did not like the rng keys, and the boss isn't very fun either.
Hereditary baldness 2: It was ok. I didn't love it, but it had some fun ideas. The really really long falling section was completely unnecessary and super tedious though.
I Wanna Look Inside: I don't know much about this game, and I didn't love the section that much. It was extremely tedious and didn't have great visuals or music.
Crimson Needle 3: My least favorite part of the whole game. Its one of the hardest areas, and while there are unique gimmicks, it is WAY WAY WAY too long and is extremely low effort at parts. I am not sure if this was made by guest makers (it seems like it was?) but it feels completely out of place. Its extremely hard and long, while also feeling like jtool sudoku with some gimmicks most of the time. There are some unique parts, like the croc area (although that area was still really hard ;-;), but the majority of it wasn't very fun. Also that one visual challenge area was the only area that actively hurt me to look at.
Then there was the last few sections. They were decent, although some of the gimmicks were really unclear It was not indicated at all that the thing orbiting the player could touch the yellow things at that one part ;-;.
The final boss was AMAZING though!!!! The music really helped it feel really climatic, and it wasn't overly difficult like so many fangame final bosses are. I didn't love some of the attacks, moving game window attack didn't work a lot of the time and the fire attack felt really tough to dodge, but it was still one of my favorite bosses in the game.
Even though there was some negativity in this review, overall this was one of the most creative and fun fangames I have ever played.
I changed my review to a 10 / 10 because I feel like the first part half is actually one of the best things I have ever played in a fangame period. Really inspiring, and I wish more fangames focused on having variety in the same way this fangame does. Of course its totally a personal preference though.
