This review is based on a 100% clear.

Charr is a game that's really timeless to me, which is interesting when you consider how dated it looks. Despite the simplistic visuals I think the energy the game brings is something special, it has so many strange ideas that work so well and it's one of those games that does a lot with very little. KingSlendy has made a Charr-like before and while I think it's cool to see a modernized (and finished) take on the format, I think it lacked some of the edge which made Charr so special to me. This made me extremely excited to see that this game was far more intense in basically every way, and seemed to capture a lot more of the magic of the original game.

The base game is pretty simple as you might expect, with short stages and simple obstacles. There's a couple strange gimmicks thrown in here, with two puzzle stages, a stage where you walk on circular planets, a time-stop gimmick, and more. For the most part though the game is like the original Charr where a majority of the challenge comes from cycles. It's a pretty chill romp but I think the game truly begins when you go for extra content. The addition of green coins is really fun, they encourage exploration which makes sense considering this type of game is full of secrets. They definitely encourage you to mess around which is cool. The part that's truly special to me however is the red coins. Just like Charr each one is an interesting challenge which usually takes the idea of the stage it's in to the extreme. There's so many of these I loved, but a few that stand out are some of the really interesting cycles in Narrow and Kill, the mini-game in Wave, and the super unique concept behind Ring. Almost every single one was really fun and interesting to me and they are definitely my favorite part, especially since they tend to be very unrestrained, putting in some really precise and unusual obstacles that end up just making each one more interesting to me.

I enjoyed most of my time with the game but I definitely have some gripes with a few things. The main two stages that I didn't like were Little and Orbit. Orbit is just kinda janky feeling since it's hard to tell when a planet will pull you in, which is a bit annoying, but I really don't like Little. The main stage is already not super enjoyable for me but the red coin was really unpleasant, it's just a style of needle I find super annoying and it felt super inconsistent. Game-play wise though those are basically my only problems with the game. Visually I think it's not super interesting, it looks "clean" but personally I prefer default visuals (which you get a taste of in Time.) It's a minor issue though.

This game is really great, but beyond just being good I think it's a really special type of fangame. To me Charr represents the spirit of fangames, it's so strange, it does weird unconventional things, it's a bit hostile to the player with some of it's obstacles and challenges, but it's just so uniquely "itself." I think that energy is exactly what I want from fangames, it's my favorite thing about them and it's why I don't get tired of them. I might not enjoy everything, or even hate some aspects of games, but games like this which are so uncompromising end up being some of my favorites. I think this kind of game is really important and deserves a lot of respect.

(review based on just beating the game without looking for secrets and only getting the 15 required yellow coins).

Amazing game. I definitely didn't experience all this game had to offer but I could tell a lot of love was put into it. It has a lot of really creative ideas, and it was super fun seeing what each new area had to offer. The fact you didn't have to clear all the areas is really nice as well, as you could kinda pick and choose to just play the ones you really enjoyed.

I'm not a fan of charr_like, but I found this game entertaining enough to try to get as far as possible. I think it's a great game, but I can't give it a higher rating because the needle style isn't my favourite. It's a game I highly recommend for both beginners and advanced players.

I don't finish it 100% is for the same reason: I don't like the needle style enough to try until I get it. (corners, planes, finishing a very difficult room to get out and ending the save with a corner, I don't like it) I think these are very classic jumps and in my opinion, annoying. I consider myself a modern needle player.

Oh, and the music is wonderful.
