I Wanna Save the Ship is a classic-styled adventure game that has all you'd want and more. After being a year and a half in development, it features classic video game worlds, a charming and lighthearted story, A-lister voice acting, memorable and unique bosses, no bottom-of-the-barrel traps, and countless creative gimmicks, all at a friendly and comfortable difficulty. If you have just gotten into fangames or are a veteran, this will be a game you won't soon forget.

Patchnotes since the I Wanna Tourney version:

-Various Kamek boss tweaks
-Turtle shell collision detection issues patched (you won't die if you jump on two enemies at once)
-The magical upwards attack has been improved
-First attack of the Vocaroid better telegraphed
-Softlock in Megaman stage patched
-First screen has more of a tutorial
-Final death count is displayed in different text colours based on death count
-Metroid area item location improved
-Doors added to the Metroid area map
-Megaman stage has bullet blockers
-In Metroid, there are now signs that hint at doors that require special weapons
-Final boss save that deletes on impossible bug patched
-A sign now explains autofire in Metroid stage

A real class act of an adventure game. This reminds me of everything I liked about fangames since I first started playing them: reference culture, funny gags, production value, and gameplay variety. Not many games do it as well as this one, especially now that most "adventure" games are secretly needle games in disguise.

Anyway, this game is awesome. It follows a pretty similar structure to the marathon games and even has the gall to bring back metroid, though I suspect that it was a bit better in this game. Not to say that plasma's stage was no good, I actually really like the one in Find a Cure, but it had some difficulty issues and it was a bit too big for its own good. This one is a little more reasonable in scope and also demands less from the player. It's a little bit on the shorter side for an adventure game in this style, but it's still got some good stuff to sink your teeth into. The story is amusing, the voice acting is charming (though not quite oscar-worthy), and the design of the hub world and each of the stages is solidly good. I got a bit frustrated at two of the bosses in particular, but that might have been because I was trying to minimize my deaths for the I Wanna Tourney. I suspect that they are less stressful when you're just playing it for fun.

That's about all the comments I have. I'd highly recommend this game if you're a fan of "back to basics" adventure games, or just want a nice fun game to play for an afternoon.
In short: more fangames like this, please.

Easily one of the best adventure games this year for me. Just an impressive combination of production value, great references, and a comfortable difficulty level that elevates this game above most others I've seen in recent memory. This game is a great showcase of what elements make an adventure game great and hopefully more makers will follow suit. Games like this remind me of what attracted me to fangames in the first place.

Banger all the way through, each section is masterpiece on it's own, Mario stage was especially my jam. Presentation of story is also S-tier. As much as Reach the Moon, this is golden standard of adventures for me

Absolutely phenomenal tribute to the original marathon games, in Save the Ship you traverse 4 old school nintendo themed stages, with megaman, kirby, mario, and metroid themed platforming and bosses for you to tackle. These are all executed very strongly, with some of the best adventure game platforming I've ever seen in my life. I absolutely adore the bosses as well, they are super fun, especially the metroid boss, and the final boss. I can't recommend this game enough, it's an absolute masterpiece, and if you like the marathon series, this is an absolute must play!
