Update: Now the game has been out a month and someone has 100%'d the game - congratulations anxKha - a full unlock save is available at https://drive.google.com/file/d/12Imu5lMw8ofEVRj75q6rvQMYFxFZMDDI/view to allow those who are interested in playing certain parts of the game but rightfully are not interested in doing it all. Extract this to %localappdata% and it should create a 'TheFarewellMedley' folder with the save information.

The Farewell Medley is a huge, adventure game heavily focused on variety and inspired by I wanna be the Farewell, and other things. The ultimate goal being to both bring together a taste of everything fangames have to offer, and trying a lot of new things to see what else might or might not work. While we believe it is best to go in with no real knowledge or expectations, that can be a big ask. For those who like to know a little regarding content/difficulty This is a non-linear variety focused adventure game - so there is a very wide array of gameplay and you should expect to have to play a lot of irregular or non-fangame gameplay. If you like wacky things, this is largely the core of the game. If you like the straightforward traditional fangame experience, this probably won't be. The estimated difficulty from the team is maybe 50 with items (honestly lower if you go hard and find all the crazy strats), and perhaps 75 without. Item usage is very much part of the game, so if you're interested but feel like it might be too difficult, do not feel like items are in any way cheating. Additional information is available in the readmes to help you tailor your playthrough slightly.

Update:
Current Version: 1.5 - Minor bugfixes, added infinite street challenge + some discarded content.

As the filesize is quite large, in order to facilitate updates, the following link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EVwkOa8itnoZAdUqRSK7cCGU8ueaxRUZ/view only includes the exe/datafile updates and is substantially smaller.

I hope everyone continues to enjoy and be confounded by this game, and as always, please continue reporting any problems that arise via discord if possible.

The original I Wanna Be The Guy and the fangames that spawned from it are a rather interesting subset of video games, because while fangames themselves are derivative works, the original game itself is deeply rooted in inspirations from a variety of retro titles. The original game however takes those inspirations and does new things with them, subverts expectations, and creates an experience which was unique to itself, and one that would inspire others to do the same. In some senses, The Farewell Medley is the next recursion of this design philosophy, but instead of random games from someone’s childhood, it’s working with over a decade of fangame history to create something unique of its own, and it absolutely succeeds.

While the game is not a traditional medley, it does come jam packed with references, tributes, mechanics, and more from various fangames, mostly notably the titular Farewell. Make no mistake however, this game is not just regurgitating these things, they are often just used as a foundation to make something new, on top of a game jam packed with original content, sometimes not even being a platformer, there’s an idle game, puzzle stages, a rhythm game, a racing game, a schmup, and much more. Very little of the content is actually required, but basically everything in the game is of quality, you can easily get lost in the optional content for hours and not even touch the main story of the game. At some points the game truly feels endless, and there’s just too many iconic and memorable moments.

It would be basically impossible to go over everything in the game, plus Canus has basically done it, but some parts that stuck out to me were the Farewell mods, which in my eyes is one of the greatest fangame stages of all time, the ending to both the any% ending and the true ending, which are great conclusions and wonderfully designed segments, the Zangief fights, which were pretty fun to grind out, particularly the Farewell one, the TIS challenges which I grinded out all of in one sitting because I have no self control, the Mysterious Study which, while I didn’t love everything, had a lot of puzzles I thoroughly enjoyed, and some of the stages you can play by befriending the three main characters, a lot of them were totally awesome.

While not all the content is a perfect 10/10, this game is more than the sum of its parts. It all combines to make something which is truly one of a kind, and is easily one of the most addicting and enjoyable fangame experiences I’ve gotten the pleasure of playing. If you were like me and haven’t tried it, and have some fangame skill and experience, you would be doing yourself a disservice to not try it at least once. Absolutely Incredible.

Is this game good or not? I don't know, but it certainly is the most.

Edit:
This game is the most fun, most creative, most enjoyable experience I have had in the nearly 6 years I've played fangames.
