Monmouth has Frozen Over is the first portion of Superplanet KG, a collection of shortventures the maker has created to avoid the troubles of having to make a longer game. And as simple as that sounds, I think they might have struck gold with the concept.

This game in particularly features 2 stages, each of which have their own gimmick that is rather interesting, and ends with a boss as well. The first involves wind that pushes you either left or right per screen, and despite how challenging a gimmick like that can be to design with I found this stage to actually be rather enjoyable (especially since kg does not cut costs on save placement). The second stage involves buttons that when pressed can activate certain effects for a limited time, which in turn leads to a vastly different feel than the prior segments. The boss is fairly simple yet incredible in atmosphere, it's easy enough that I think anyone who can reach it will definitely be able to progress to the end.

I want to give a particular mentions to two things in the game, first is the atmospheric anesthetics and the second is the overall narrative. The game makes you feel incredibly lonely, something honed in by the attention to visuals and sound design and just the world around you in general. The story of course hones this in even more, and in my eyes leaves an immense amount of potential knowing that this is only the first part of a larger deal. While the other parts may be completely secular from this since it's mentioned to be an anthology, I think this world is one of the most engrossing ones portrayed in a fangame.

Definitely recommended, looking forward to more.

Stunning visuals and atmosphere. The gimmicks for each stage were unique and the gameplay flowed incredibly well, especially in the second stage. The boss was quite challenging but also really fun. Amazing game and I'm excited for what's to come next in the series!

I was a playtester for this game, and am a buddy of kg's, so take this review with like half a grain of salt, or whatever you like, I'm not picky. I'm also quite new to fangames, only playing them for about a year, and my hardest clear being around a 65.

This is one of my favorite fangames that I have played. It has 2 stages, both with fun and unique gimmicks, great music, and a fun boss at the end. I personally enjoyed the first stage quite a lot, and the effort that went into making it fun shows. And the last screen of the stage is just a blast to play. Great stuff. The saves are also very generous in the first stage, making it a bit easier than the second, however it isn't drastic. The second stage has super interesting and unique gimmicks, and (this may just be me) quite tricky platforming. The music fits the stage well with the style of play, being very fast paced. The boss is, in my opinion, the weakest part of the game, but that doesn't mean its bad. For being a short game, the boss is quite intricate, and the design is pretty cool.

All around, I think this game is incredible, and a very strong start for the anthology. I believe this is one of kg's best works, and I am very excited to play the rest of the anthology games that he has planned.

Great atmosphere and good platforming. My only complaint is the stage 1 snow effect being a bit too dense making it hard to see.
