Rating based on blind play. Heavily trap-based adventure game.
Most of the difficulty comes from figuring out how to get past the traps, and some of them also require precise timing and control.
It's not an easy game, but definitely worth playing especially the last stage and final boss

A clear sequel to Arcana and somehow better in my opinion. We get the same structure in this new entry, overcharged trap sections (with the final one being overcharged in comedy and cultural references), and some bosses throughout with the last one being insanely polished in quality.

What stands out to me from the Arcana platforming is that even the triggers in the "not directly comedic section" are funny because of how dynamically things move; it surprises you with what the killers pull off and thats also a comedic factor, but also, the movements that the entire game makes you pull off are super fun and satisfying. These are like the common three selling points that trap/trigger games can give you, usually picking one, two or three of them, which is fine.

The insanity of Arcana is that it masters all three throughout the whole game. The movements are fun, the movements you are supposed to do are comedic in nature, and for the final stage, the nature and culture of the traps are hilarious in nature.
With this in mind, the fact that I think all three are further improved in this game is absolutely insane to me. The game keeps the variety of themes and extra mechanics that makes for some genuinely interesting sections, and I would say these are also much more fun in this entry.

The bosses are amazing and I would argue the improvement this time around is the bosses before the final one. In Arcana they were already very good but they have gone even further this time around. The final boss as usual is some insane Touhou interpretation that is insanely cool.

This is easily one of my favorite fangames, it is definitely top 1 or 2. I could go on about many of the details. I think the gears stage might be the best platforming I have ever played, period. From the beginning, the intro itself was telling me that this game was going to mean a lot to me. The levels of presentation match the levels of fun.

Obra maestra.

I am a really big fan of Arcana of the Tarot so I was pretty excited about this game despite the fact I took so long to actually try it. In the end though I didn't get into it as much as I hoped for a few main reasons.

To start with the good stuff the high quality trap gameplay that borders on trigger needle you would expect from this duo is here and it's mostly great. I think the first third or so of the game leading up to the first boss is exactly what I hoped for from a game like this and it delivers. Likewise the final stage is that great, over the top, reference heavy stuff that made the final stage of Arcana something special. These elements of the game are the stuff I can really appreciate and I have nothing bad to say about them. I especially found the factory stage where you go back and forth a bunch to be really novel.

Unfortunately sandwiched between these two stage portions is the casino stage which really rubs me the wrong way. To start the gameplay just felt lacking. The progression of the area is neat with collecting items but the traps rarely stood out and the saves go by so quick. This style of game is one where every save gives you something new to bite into and figure out and this stage was lacking that hard. It's the kind of trap gameplay that goes by without leaving an impression to me. There's also the use of generative AI which is bad. Gen AI is a horrible thing and seeing it in a creative work disappoints me to no end. It makes it hard to appreciate the other visuals in the game as much because the use of it undermines the very expressive and human process of making art, and visuals are included in the artworks we know as fangames. It doesn't help that the Casino stage looks really bad, it's just so ugly in my opinion and in a way I've never really felt before in a fangame. It really feels like a big stain on this game.

The bosses also didn't really impress me unfortunately. Unfortunately the nature of the game makes it too easy to compare to Arcana which has some really strong bosses, but even on their own the bosses in this game were pretty weak. The first one is kinda cool but doesn't leave much of an impression, the second boss has the same kinda gross feeling the rest of the casino stage has and very little of interest happens, and while the final boss has a lot of cool ideas I think the attack design is sorely lacking in the first four attacks, which will make up most of your playtime with the fight. The earth attack is neat, but the other 3 bored me and made it annoying to die basically anywhere in the fight. It's the kind of thing I want to like but it's just not for me.

Overall I was pretty disappointed with this game, especially with the praise it gets, but that praise indicates my opinion is far from the common one and if you like Arcana, it's still worth a shot. Despite my gripes I still think the good elements are enough to leave a pretty nice impression and leave me satisfied with the game overall.

I feel like this game is more of a trigger needle game than a trap and adventure game. It's a trigger needle game, but it doesn't have the flow and design that a good trigger needle game has to have. It's a trap game, but it's way too precise and has no fun traps. So in every sense I will not consider it as a good game.

The traps are not fun at all. They just give you small spaces in which you have to run very quickly to stay alive. Some saves are even worse where you will never pass it if you cannot get on the same wavelength as the author. Sometimes I even have to watch replays to figure out the safety zone.

So I would say that this game is way worse than Tarot. The latter has a very creative torch gimmick, and the traps give more flexibility and humorousness, while the former is just all sizes of blocks and spikes flying and stretching and rotating here and there before the last stage. The card stage is also confusing. I guess the author wants to put some gimmicks here, but the stage is just basically avoiding traps, getting a card, heading to other traps. I found it also reasonable to remove the cards. Sorry I don't get it lol.

Production wise this game is very good. Bosses are decent too. However they can hardly make up for what I said above. Would not recommend.
