I'm crawling out of my hiatus of having stopped reviewing in Del-Fruit as a personal decision, because this brings back memories, and made me consider restart rewriting, at least only for myself, because at the end of the day, reviewing is a core part of my art appreciation and communication process with people around the world. So I'll give this event that credit.

I remember when the community used to be closer and more respectful.

I remember when offenses came from genuine insults rather than actively seeking for them.

I remember when the overall idea of one living however one pleased, without fear of stating how one thinks and expressing their identity and religious worldview wouldn't result in so much retaliation like it happens today.

I remember when landmark human achievements 12-15 years ago used to be applauded as such, and now what you get is just a social-conventionalism "GG" as if beating a 70+ game just earns you another "cool", and that's it, even if you went through hell for beating it. We have desensitized to the magnitude of conquering a "veteran"-difficulty fangame, something that not even Boshy has.

However, things change, not always for the best.

As for this arguably non-game (for the purity and strictness of my terms, it is a game, but not a videogame, and ergo, not a fangame), if we're going sarcasically philosophical like the actual read me, which retroactively makes you symbolically beat the idea of the game, besides being a waste of time, there are two fundamental flaws with it beyond the obvious ones like polluting the wiki with trash:

1) The read-me even fails to predict why I downloaded this non-videogame. It's not for the sake of clearing, nor for going along with the joke, or adding one more clear to the list (which I have purposefully discontinued to update). It's unfunnily repepetitive despite a good grammar. The reason I did it is because of how an experimental idea would be applied, and could write a review about it, and it turned out to be the worst version possible of that iteration.

2) The Spanish-speaking community, myself included, which has openly expressed in live streams, private communications and other public spaces our discontent against the English-speaking community concerning xenophobic attacks based on nationality and age since the Twourney Week 1 incident (which was exactly the catalyst that made me stop reviewing for this site, until now, with a couple of exceptions like "Let's Go Gambling" for the memes), made the joke "I Wanna Read the Readme becoming more real each time" for years straight non-stop. If binding controls is allowed or not, it should be in the readme. The ultimate paradoxical irony boils down to this readme being more explicit about its intent than releasing an unfinished product and releasing it in the readme.

So, concerning point #2, the fatal flaw is that Bubexel never made this game. Someone else did, a Pixar's Cars fan, and now our possibility for a retaliation joke is destroyed.

Hence, the proper response to this is just extinguishing the fire of my disappointment. Legend has it, reacting in this manner gets you banned, but I refuse to believe that possibility: it's a freaking emoji (ascii text in this case which involves a very common safety artifact against fires), so putting normal objects emojis and getting a ban out of it is completely asinine to me. So I refuse to believe it happened. In case it did (heh), then yes, that's a serious deranged case.

Anyways, let me burn this trash properly:

There, it's ashes now.

Yeah, there's no way that happened.... EVER. Otherwise, we're socially regressing.

the overwhelming reaction to this fangame has already cemented it as a more impactful, important, and culturally relevant fangame than 99% of what has been put on delfruit

I often hate contributing to Discourse. But I'm contributing anyways because who's going to stop me?

I feel if anyone were to actually read what was included in here, you'd find it touches on every criticism listed by others. Its entire purpose asks the question of why it should exist in the first place, why anyone would or should give it attention; and then it tells you to move on, play something with actual content. Whether or not you like it, it's a novel concept; the readme says as much as well! It even discusses whether this can be even called a fangame in the first place!

I found humor in its concept and novelty, even if the whole thing wasn't exactly the most enlightening read. My personal belief is that it is a fangame because its contents touch on an everpresent element in fangames, even if a vast majority of players always ignore them; and because the author also refers to it as such. I think it has every reason to be included here; and I don't believe there's reason to worry about the slippery slope of seeing The Flood of non-game games appear here, because when has it in the past? I also don't truly believe it buries any other project one could play; this was going to happen whether or not this thing was released. I've long been vocal about my disappointment in what little attention StrathGaze has received since release, in spite of my efforts; but this existing and receiving attention to this degree doesn't particularly bother me. Why should I be jealous of another game's popularity? Yes, I pine for the same popularity of my own creations, as anyone should, but do I condemn what receives it instead, regardless of quality? I say no.

The criticism I think is overstated. I think many points brought up by others here are also completely irrelevant and only exist to touch on separate events from separate timeframes, and don't put forward any proper ideas on how to remedy their woes with the state of our community. This page, if I may outright say so here, has become a spot for people disenfranchised with our direction to vent, and I hardly see it the right venue for that.

But, I also think the praise is overstated; even if novel, it doesn't automatically make it a masterpiece. Of course, I can't and won't force others' hands in how they perceive this. It kind of is a waste of time; I think that was its intent as well. Troll fangames from every era set out to do just this anyways; and every time the reaction is just about as polarizing as this is. Actually thinking about it, historically this same praise on the likes of "I wanna be the my heart goes on" has garnered the same reactions from those who believe it's unfair for other makers who put REAL effort into their projects. Maybe if we stop giving these games so much attention then it resolves everything?

I don't know, history is a flat circle and this will happen again in 6 months time, you can bet on it. I just think all of you are annoying. I also think I'm annoying; it's not like me posting this review isn't also giving this game more attention. Actually, isn't every side giving this game unwanted attention?

Oops, I'm soapboxing like the readme is; if you read through this review for whatever reason, go put it on your clearlist next to the readme and play StrathGaze or something.
