Update: As I understand the game is quite long and not everyone is interested in all of it, there is now a post-game clear save available here which you can place in your AppData\Local\IWBTOP\Data path (similar to any studio game) to use and access whichever areas do interest you.

This is a very lengthy adventure game, intended to provide the player with a wide array of nearly everything that fangames offer including a large variety of platform and boss gimmicks, tied together with a cheesy story of reversed roles where you play as your favorite secondary fangame character (or the kid, for familiarity) seeking solace under the sea.

Requires mouse use for certain situations though none that are time restrictive, and has a couple of optional online features including leaderboards and version checking (available from 1.02 onward).

Current version is 1.21

A new character model is available in 1.21

Those on version 1.1 should update asap as it unfortunately introduced a crash risk.

This is a monster of a game in both size and scope. Ocean Princess is a pretty beefy adventure game that packs in a ton of content that is sure to take most players many hours to complete on their first play. What this game strives to do is deliver a lot of stages featuring a multitude of various gimmicks and bosses to give a wide variety of content to the player.

A lot of the good in this game comes from the gimmicks. Ocean Princess delivers a lot of gimmicks and presents them in fairly well-designed stages around them. These designs often times take the gimmicks into a puzzle-like place where you will be scratching your head staring at rooms trying to figure out how to use the gimmick to proceed. The vast majority of these gimmicks are well executed and keeps the gameplay always changing through the stages in a way that seldom feels dull.

There are times where I felt the game goes a little too deep into needle, and this is when Ocean Princess feels at its weakest. It's not to say that the needle is generic or poorly made, because it isn't. But the inclusion of needle-heaviness of some of the stages sprinkled in with well-executed gimmick stages feels jarring or uninteresting in comparison. One moment you will be solving amazingly produced puzzles, then the next you are in some needle stage where a gimmick feels like it was shoe-horned in. For me this is where the game stumbles in its pacing, and the needle feels like it sometimes is out of place in the midst of so many other good ideas. I also feel these needle areas really jack up the difficulty making the game only accessible to seasoned fangame veterans where it would otherwise been able to appeal to a wider audience.

Aside from this, the production in the game is pretty stellar throughout. The music is most of the stages is well done. There are optional collectables and extras sprinkled through the stages and an online leaderboard system that tracks of variety of stats.

This is a fangame worth your time, but probably not good for newcomers and casual players.

Likely one of the best-made fangames I've played. It's a long one too, full of a ton of variety throughout its stages. So it's definitely a fangame that will keep you busy for a while. Not all of the gimmicks in the stages were fantastic, though. Some of them will take some getting used to and can be frustrating, but overall it's absolutely worth playing. This fangame even has a decent story to it, which is very rare for fangames in general.

This game is absolutely massive, probably only rivalled by Cultured 2 in terms of scope and polish, and that's a collab medley, so the fact that this is all original content made by one guy is nothing short of legendary. The length is totally justified as well by the incredible variety in mechanics the game throws at you, pretty much all of which I enjoyed.

I could keep gushing for a while about all the stages, quality of life features, fantastic music and really just about every aspect of the game, but plenty of people have already done all that for me. Just know that it's an absolute must play. Kurath is god.

While some places were kinda meh (especially places that are focused on needle gameplay, that was either feels forced or like filler), most of the game was solid blast of enjoyment. Gimmicks and related with them puzzles are very varied and for the most part very fun - Temple of Trials was def higlight in that sense, i also liked a lot most of Stage 1, Stage 3 and Gears Segment of final stage; Hall of Minigames was huge as well, with Rin's Rampage being my favourite. Sometimes tho i have feel not every gimmick was realised to the end - Acid Bog and Sandy Sprint are most notorious, and i also in general i don't really like Deep Dive - controls for submarine feels tanky, and other option as needle was very meh

Bosses are good designed, and they are truly varied in terms of layout and pace of fights, not always totally hits me in best way (not really fan of Darkness and Kraken), but still overall pretty great. Final boss is huge standout in that terms, some ideas about it is just wow. Medusa, Frost Guardian and Sand Demon also the ones that comes to mind as examples of quite awesome bosses

All in all, it was nice journey at any rate. Addition of optional bonus stars, that you can collect, was nice driving thing to platforming, and reward for them is really cool, probably the thing that i always wanted to see in adventures in general. The plot that follows you in the game feels nice and natural. Sprites and general visual design are awesome, music is chill and fitting

For how long this game is, not that many things bothers me too much, and a lot of them bring me sweet vibes; this is one of the game where everyone can find something catching for themself. Easily recommended

What is there to say that you don't already know? Ocean Princess immediately cemented itself as one of the greatest fangames ever made, and by God does it deserve that treatment. On an objective level, this game is near-flawless. The tiling is mediocre in most places, but that is the absolute worst that I can possibly say about the game. Every gimmick is utilized to perfection, even gimmicks that I personally did not love (the one where you have to be a certain distance away from spikes being the main culprit) are intrinsically great, the bosses are all excellent and feel great to grind out, and I'm saying this as someone who isn't a big boss guy. The platforming is brilliant universally, the way it is interwoven with the gimmicks for each stage is done like no other. There is not a single thing that I cannot recommend about this game - except for the Rin Ball mini-game at the end before the boss, I did not like that mini-game at ALL. Even that, however, is so minute that it could not ever hope to bring down the quality of the game.

The story is great, and who would have thought I could ever say that about a fangame? Basically, you're a vocaloid girl and you're trying to stop the kid from pestering you and that is it. This somehow had 12 massive stages of content come out of it, and good lord is every bit of those stages worth it. The story is not overt; in fact, you might forget what is happening in the story if you aren't playing as one of the vocaloids (you can change your skin to 5 or so different characters and the kid, I stayed as the kid), but every now and then a big event will happen and pull you back in - and not once was I ever irritated with the story barging in.

The aesthetic and mood of this game is like no other, mediocre tiling be damned. Each stage feels cohesive and doesn't feel out of place within the grand scheme of the game, and there is a notable flow from stage to stage which makes Ocean Princess feel like you are on this long peregrination - not without an end goal in mind, of course. As the game progresses, you'll feel the chance in mood, you'll notice that rock solid difficulty curve, and you'll realize that you're really starting to get somewhere. By the time everything is all said and done, you'll wish there were 12 more stages to explore.

There are stars to collect throughout the game and I endeavored to collect all but 3 of those, one of which I absolutely did not want to work for as it concerns the spoiler I spoke of which I did not enjoy, and the other 2 of which I missed on my first playthrough. Nonetheless, though some of these stars felt like they were just shoehorned in, the majority felt rewarding to retrieve and I felt great satisfaction at collecting most of these stars. Their actual reward is fairly unimportant to me, however, as they only give the ability to fight harder versions of each bosses, but I wanted to collect these stars anyways as it gave me the opportunity to play the game a little more.

Ocean Princess took 30 hours of my life, but not one of those hours were wasted. I loved my time with this game, and I wish it could have lasted 30 hours longer.
