What this game has:

-A RELOAD system for your gun every 8 rounds, making fights frustrating and dumb (I would find myself counting my rounds up to 8 so I could empty a full clip against a boss without interruption because I counted wrong)
-A "fear" mechanic that makes no sense. It is actually a health bar that slowly recovers with time after you take a hit, except for a couple of key scenes. Why would your fear rise when you get physically hit by a spike??
-Said actual HP bar makes all platforming senseless. You can just take shortcuts that damage you to save time. Are both ways of platforming intended?
-Cryptic parts. I only knew I had to shoot the orbs to teleport myself because of that infamous discovery in Be the Overlord, but pressing up against golden hooks was a major guess I had to consult.
-Not a metroidvania design. I don't know why people are calling this a metroidvania, because the game is as linear as you can get. It's only a maze that will constantly bump you against dead ends because you haven't acquired a single item. There is only one route. Also, taking the correct route is taking a guess, which is frustrating, so good luck going back and forth. A metroidvania has free exploration from the most part. This game isn't.

What are we left with? A great production value, beautiful visuals and amazing bosses yet again, toned down for the beginner players but fun enough to take the challenge. However, I am facing a game that in some weird way trivializes everything it sells in its webpage publicity, especially the platfoming. "I'll just run through this enemy because I am bored."

The final boss was a great idea. A joke caught me off guard.

i kept on getting lost and running into dead ends and didnt know where to go. I also missed the ruby because i went down and i had to wait for a friend to tell me where it was since i thought i looked everywhere.

wasnt a fan of the fear mechanic, i dont like having to wait when i make a mistake and waiting for my fear to go down, and being able to essencially skip a gate or something get rid of the fangame-feel

it was pretty easy too, wish it was harder, other than all that it was pretty fun, good bosses except the final boss was a little disappointing

This game is incredible. I honestly think it might be better than Mattin's game from last year, which was a feat in itself. This one makes great use of the "fear" theme. The HP bar being a fear meter was a really nice touch and it worked well with the game's design. The final boss using the kid's four biggest fears to attack him was pretty funny and made for a really memorable fight.

The atmosphere and production value is basically perfect. Everything looks amazing and there are even some awesome 3D effects. I liked the way the player explores a large mansion, it reminded me of the castlevania games. The world layout is good with some puzzles sprinkled around and shortcuts for backtracking. One thing though that I think the game could use is a map, because at one point I got lost and had to backtrack through a few areas before I found a way I hadn't gone. It's not a big deal, but it flustered me a bit not knowing what to do.

Really, it's just a great experience of a game. The gimmicks were fun, the controls were good, and the bosses were intense and interesting. Would buy on steam.

Mattin delivers an amazing adventure game yet again. This is one of a couple entries which replicates the survival-horror atmosphere that I really enjoy, and searching around this giant mansion looking for keys, powerups and other items makes for a fun time. This is further complemented by the menu system, something I'm glad to see in this style of game. The level design in particularly felt really solid and well thought-out all the way through, and there were no weird difficulty bumps or questionable saves. There werwe also a variety of bosses, each completely different visually and conceptually but all equally creative and engaging to play. The final boss in particular is a stand-out, and whilst I'd have like to have seen perhaps more attacks in the shooty phase or just have that phase last a little less time, it made for a really intense finale. The production value was very impressive too, from the parallax background effects to the clean and slick tilesets, it's just all-around a great production.

As mentioned earlier, I'd have liked to have seem the final boss have a few more attacks in the shooty phase, perhaps an series of enrage attacks. I liked how in the Brain boss one of the attacks "enraged" upon breaking the glass, and it's something I wish was in all of the bosses as it makes the fights more intense and exciting. It's not a major thing though, and one of the small things I can really pick out. I did get a tiny bit lost at the end when looking where to put the 2 items, as I hadn't noticed that segment was examinable.

From small things like the well-designed flow of the environment and the attention to detail on sound effects, to the creative level design and fun boss variety, Kiduija makes for a really memorable adventure game. Great stuff as always Mattin!

I first played this game a few years ago, and I was curious to see if it held up. The short answer is yes, absolutely. The long answer is...

Kiduija is a short horror-themed adventure game (don't worry, there aren't actually any scary elements). It has a little bit of a metroidvania vibe to it, but aside from one or two points it's actually completely linear.

The platforming here is great, there's a variety of different obstacles that all contribute to the atmosphere, with crushers, swinging balls, enemies, and more. Rarely does the game rely on just spikes. The gimmicks are really fun, the orbs you shoot to teleport are really fun, and I also love the use of the hanging rings, they add some good variety to the jumps. The only real crime here is that the game is short.

I like the bosses, though the non-final bosses feel too short and easy to ever really shine. The final boss is cool, the interludes spice it up a bit. The aesthetics of this boss are also really good, it's a creepy culmination to the game's atmosphere.

The story is pretty basic, but for a fangame it's impressive to have a story at all, so that's a plus. The opening cutscene is surprisingly well made, with lots of nice details. Overall, the details make the game shine, from the cool inventory featuring a heartbeat, to the random furniture making the castle feel more lively.

The health system is good, it makes the game very approachable. This is a perfect recommendation for new players due to this mechanic. Also, if it wasn't here there were spots I might complain about the balance. But it is, so those slightly more difficult jumps don't actually impact my enjoyment of the game.

Overall, one of the best short adventure games we have. Given the difficulty level, I feel like this should be a go to recommendation for newer players.
