This is a very short and relatively easy game made as a gift just for Chatran, for the 2022 Secret Santa. Enjoy!

For: WannaFest 22
For: WannaFest 22
WannaFest 22 is a wonderfully made adventure, filled with a lot of charm that for me encapsulates a lot of the joys of fangames, and the wide spread of variety that they can offer the player. I had the privilege of racing this blind during Fangame Marathon, and there wasn't a single part that I wasn't smiling at. And now, playing the fully polished and released version a few months later, it's cemented itself as one of my favourite adventure fangames that I've played.
As it was the blind adventure fangame for FM2022, it followed a similar trend to past games, with a tight focus on re-creating and rebuilding well known existing games in the world of I Wanna be the Guy. WannaFest does it at a very high level with the design, with no segment ever feeling like it verges towards frustration.
What I feel it particularly excels at though is the variety. Every stage feels distinctly memorable, and a lot of the time not something you'd be familiar with seeing in fangames. I think this can always run the risk of one or two stages not vibing too well with some players, depending on personal preference. But I believe the general design and pacing of the game is so tight that just about everyone can enjoy the content the game has to offer.
The production value is also just on another level to 99% of fangames. Visually it's a treat, and a few stages I feel are up there as some of the most impressively produced fangame stages that exist. The work that must have gone into the production I feel is probably very irregular when looking at general fangame production, and a behind-the-scenes look would be very interesting to see.
There's also a ton of replay value, with a full achievements menu, statistics which can alter a thing or too depending on how you did, and some other neat bonuses to check out! There's lots of polish which never felt totally necessary, but all just added up to make the experience that much cleaner, and ultimately is very much appreciated.
One last thing I have to praise I'll leave in a spoiler tag due to the nature of it. I always enjoy story in fangames because it makes things feel more cohesive and memorable, but getting the original IWBTG voice actors to reprise their roles only made it all the more special after all these years, and that's just honestly awesome to see. And of course bonus shoutout to Natsu for nailing the chain-smoking New York cop at the end, which probably did irreversible damage to his throat. A tough, but perhaps necessary price to pay for the game's ending.
Overall I can't really fault the game. If you like variety, adventures or even just fangames at all, you owe it to yourself to give WannaFest a shot.

For: MiniMetroidvania 4
MiniMetroidvania 4 is the fourth entry in Kurath's mini metroidvania series, with the other three being all in I Wanna Maker, meaning this one had the potential to stray from the constraints of Maker and get a little weirder, something which is always daunting knowing Kurath's other games.
As the name would imply, it follows a very traditional formula. You'll start with very little and gradually unlock more abilities and powerups as you explore the mini world that's presented to you. There's a nice handful of weird gimmicks that all feel surprisingly fun (my personal standout being the rocket kid gimmick, which I can only see as the one true way to do a rocket kid gimmick now). The bosses are all fun too and utilise gimmicks from their respective areas, making it feel that bit more cohesive and tied together.
The visuals and music complemented each other nicely. A good handful of the tilesets seemed to be taken from Ocean Princess so maybe there's some deep lore or worldbuilding to be investigated here. If I had one complaint regarding any of these things, it would be that the music loop cut in the final stage is really noticeable and abrupt. I usually don't care about this too much, but my bias for enjoying the final stage song as much as I do probably drove this deeper that it would've otherwise been.
The game can often get pretty puzzly too. I found some saves near the end regarding some of the weirder gimmicks to be particularly challenging, just in terms of getting to grips with handling the gimmick and figuring out what I'm doing. I wouldn't say it ever got too frustrating though, but it's definitely a game that's gonna challenge you in different ways, and some of those ways will inevitably hit some sore spots for people.
Overall it's a great metroidvania fangame with very clean platforming and boss design, and a surplus of variety to make the road stay fresh. So long as you're ready to be challenged in some potentially weird and unusual ways amidst the normal platforming design style, you'll probably have a good time with this.

For: I Wanna A Puzzle Game For Beginner
For: I Wanna A Puzzle Game For Beginner
A rather irregular fangame in the sense that not a great deal of platforming skill is really required, and instead just the ability to think outside the box and figure out what the trick to each screen is.
I can definitely agree with other reviews that it feels reminiscent of flash games of the early 2000's which presented you with weird challenges, and you had to think of how to answer them, often in questionable ways. For the most part it's very easy, although a couple of them did take me a bit longer to figure out what was happening.
It doesn't do anything that's really crazy or giga-brain, but overall it's a very comfortable beginner puzzle game which doesn't really do all that much wrong either. I had fun with it.

For: I Wanna Stop her Slaughter
Stop her Slaughter is a very short adventure, consisting of a few screens and a boss fight, primarily with an Umineko theme and some other references.
The platforming is enjoyable, with a solid feel of some nice, polished, oldschool platforming. The boss is the real standout for me, themetically being designed really nicely around what's going on during the fight, and it keeps a very constant pace of moving around the arena you're given. I also really love the ending of the fight, and it tied up the short but sweet game really nicely. Overall it was a quick but very enjoyable time for me.
