While this is an improvement over the developer's first game, the actual needle design is still quite generic and uninteresting. It's almost entirely named jumps, and as a result the balance suffers. A game with just a few screens should not have one save that's just a gate, and another that's a diamond at the end of other jumps.

The inclusion of gimmicks is a godsend, it always makes a game much more interesting. I highly approve of digging into the engine gimmicks. Particularly with Renex engine, you can make some really unique stuff with the wide variety of options available to you. While dotkid and telekid are great gimmicks on their own, I found their usage here pretty uninspired. The dotkid jumps are just kinda the very basic stuff you expect from every occurrence of dotkid. The telekid isn't really used for anything interesting, just some basic wall climbs.

In addition, the telekid allows for a couple skips. Unsure if this is intentional, but on both screens with the gimmick, the telekid-removers are poorly placed and you can pretty easily bypass them. In both instances, this allows some skips later on. On the second screen of telekid, it allows you to skip the entire rest of the screen.

I think the most interesting thing about the game is the aesthetic. Having the "crunchy" vibe for the visuals and music is cool. I wish it influenced the needle a bit more. Needle with crunchy/messy vibes is really cool to me, but this game is unfortunately pretty standard in its design.

One minor complaint I have is the confusing use of save blockers. Sometimes you can make a segment much easier by shooting a save that lacks blockers, sometimes you can't. In one case, there are two saves in a line with no blocker in between. This means that shooting from the right with save you twice, once with a delay. This can be annoying cause if you try to save and then jump, the second save will then hit and save you in midair.

Another thing is that most of the text is chosen to use colors that collide with the background, making it very difficult to read. This is a neat part of the aesthetic for the most part. However, I dislike doing it for the options menu. It's impossible to read the options, making it hard to do things like change volume or controls. I feel like the options menu should've been drawn differently to avoid this - it doesn't contribute enough to the aesthetic to be worth sacrificing the ability to change settings.

This game also has a few things I critiqued from the developer's previous game. Namely, the strange decision of making hard the first difficulty that comes up when creating a save, and the laziness in not renaming the game in the titlebar.

Overall, a solid improvement from the first game. Including gimmicks and experimenting with unique aesthetics is a huge plus. However, still brought down significantly by generic design and poor save balancing.
