2026 Review Revision
---------------------------

I tested this. A couple things about the game to clear up some confusion and provide some insight behind its journey:

1. The game's menu structure is lifted directly out of the rhythm game VOEZ; this is why "Special" is the difficulty above hard, it's called as much in VOEZ and refers to the more "experimental" charts that may or may not be harder than a typical hard chart.

2. The vine screen in TheWWworld's stage was nixed because it literally did not work properly in the engine. Nikaple engine made several parts of this game impossible and necessitated porting into Yuuutu, because adjusting the stages around the engine would have been extremely difficult--Shimmer's stage in particular was untenable, I think every single save was impossible in the original engine. The vine screen was removed long before STAB ported it all into Yuuutu so it may have ended up being fine in the final product, but it never got put back in and it never came across my mind to try it again.

3. Mirror and seVens' stages were the only two stages I did not beat before release, for reasons I explain below. Both were impossible on release as a result and required a few updates to make right. I was only able to ultimately beat Mirror's stage by using a skip that I decided was best to not report.

4. Generally while testing this, I was in a state of mind where pushing difficulty was inherently a bad thing. I don't agree with this now, as little patience as I have for pushing my own skills in the modern day, but at the time my patience for the style of needle displayed in a typical Discord Makers game was razor thin. Much of the original difficulty of this game was neutered by my hands, and I was pretty rude about it as well. For the makers who I most likely insulted in the process, intentional or not, I do apologize.
---------------------------

I still think overall the game came out well, just with a handful of mistakes (by all means replace the music in Wind's stage yourself; that was the one big thing I did not succeed in getting changed), but it may have been put into an awkward spot where a game originally intended to push boundaries tried to become appealing to the common needler, and by my hands it may have missed both marks.

There's easy needle, there's hard needle, there's consistency needle, there's easy precision needle, there's trigger platforming. Just loads of stuff and it's mostly cool.

My main complaint is that the vine screen of TheWWworld stage was neutered away during testing basically just because it was based on nonstandard vine placements, it would've been fun to play.

Discord Makers CN Side is a mammoth of a needle game consisting of a whopping 28 stages! With such a wide range of makers, each stage differs greatly from the last, making for a very varied needle ride. Even if you're not committed to clearing everything in the game, chances are you're going to find some stages to like here.

The stages are split into 3 categories, these being 'Easy', 'Hard' and 'Special'. Despite this, I found the stages to be moreso just an Easy -> Medium -> Hard sort of range. A number of stages in the 'Special' category don't feel particularly special. That's not to say the needle isn't good or interesting, but whilst stages like Shimmer's L-needle stage or Shadow's Rukito-esque trap needle stage stand out as very unique, stages like seVens or Q123's are moreso just very difficult albeit creatively designed needle.

In regards to needle enjoyment, I enjoyed a vast chunk of the platforming in this game. I gather from infern0's review that a lot of testing was put into it which is very appreciable given just how much needle there is to work through. Some of my personal standouts include the aforementioned Shadow's stage which was a very creative Rukito+ style challenge, Bootstrap's high-quality 32px heavy stage and Flames stage which whilst being one of the easier ones remained a fun challenge throughout. Even some of the ones I didn't expect to like such as Shimmer's L stage turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable, as it didn't require any cancels or 1f's.

The production value also deserves a shoutout, which is really polished and well done. The interface resembles that of a mobile rhythm game (Voez I believe?) and the style works really well as you navigate the clean menu and aesthetically pleasing arrangement of stages. My only complaint was sometimes after scrolling along I couldn't click a stage until I'd scroll more, as if the page was desynced with where the buttons were. Maybe it's an issue with my bigger window, who knows.

Very worth mentioning that you can back out of any stage at any time and it will save your progress should you want to return later. For a game with such a large amount of stages and variety, this is hugely appreciated and a really great feature of the game.

I did have some gripes with a few stages regarding either design or difficulty. One thing that comes to mind is the water screen in TheWWworld's stage which had some kinda questionable jumps, and a few parts of Coffee's stage were a bit on the unpleasant side. Obviously with a game of this size nobody is going to like everything, and I was still able to appreciate every stage despite some hiccups along the way.

If you're a needle fan then I'd strongly recommend giving this game a shot. 100% completion can be demanding if a number of the stages aren't to your liking, but I'd still push you to give the stages a try and see which ones appeal to you, because there's a lot of high quality needle in here packed inside a very pretty package.

massive and difficult discord makers game with a whole ton of Chinese makers. some I've heard of and some I haven't, perhaps some for the best. this game is quite mixed - there's a wide array of good and bad, easy and difficult; however nothing on the "bullshit/not bullshit" spectrum, which is a great thing. every stage is (usually) fair and (usually) doesn't have particularly egregious choke jumps.

stages are also divided a bit oddly, not sure why "Special" is above "Hard". why not just call them "Very Hard" or something of that nature? I mean they are special in their own right - they stray into other kinds of needle (i.e. trigger, trap, line, precision, etc.) and clearly set themselves apart from the rest of the stages.

some of my favorite stages were fallenleaves, oblivion, wworld, autumn and shadow. some of the worst ones were nine3water, STAB, irkara, wind and se7ens. se7ens is especially annoying since the last screen in the stage has one of the most annoying and poorly thought out vine jumps that I've ever seen as one of the last jumps in the save. I don't know what was going through this guy's head while designing it but it's entirely counter-productive and annoying to include. on the other side though, shadow's stage is really fun and simple, having a K3 Rukito area theme. it plays a lot like it, but much much better. better traps, more creative needle design, much less difficult and much more pleasant-looking. I wish that stage lasted for 10 screens instead of lvyuki and wind, which took up way too many screens. however, lvyuki gets a pass for at least having somewhat interesting and difficult needle; wind's screens are all in one annoying fucking circlejerk that seems to never end really. this problem appears a few other times - stages that overstay their welcome and drone on for too long. wind is the main culprit of this, but it happens a few other times like in lvyuki (slightly) and coffee. might as well mention that coffee stage is quite ugly and plays poorly. both are true for wind stage too, I suppose

While nothing was really oustanding or amazing here, there is nothing really bad here as well, which is honestly quite solid checkmark for such a huge needle collab. Needle stages are decently varied, production value is on point and system where you can leave stage and progress is saves is based and should be required for collabs like this (even tho i still progress in traditional way by doing stage by stage without leaving)

About individual stages: i quite enjoyed Xp and Shadow stages, which were trigger-oriented with clearly some inspiration from Rukito and they were just enjoyable honestly. I also remember Chance stage has very funny twist at the end. I remember Torore stage was pretty cool. I remember Shimmer stage was also pretty cool, despite being on precision side, and so was Man stage. I remember Mirror stage has some fun shit as well as TheWWworld stage, even tho they has lowpoints as well. I also remember i quite disliked Wind stage for being just insanely long for no good reason and BigUniverse stage which has weirdchamp balance, where hardest saves were worst as well

About hardest stages - seVenes stage was probably hardest at peak and in general. Q123 stage was also pretty intense. Also both of this stages has a lot of gravity-switch needle (which is solid part why are they so hard). STAB stage and Coffee stage has some rough shit, and also Mirror stage and BigUniverse stage were pretty damn hard

All in all, this was solid experience. My usual way of playing this - when i was bored and just want to play mindless needle, this was one of my number 1 pick. You can call it fastfood needle - sure why not, but this game doing it's job great still. Once i got to special stages i kinda went ham on the rest of the game and was not disappointed as well. Overall, it's fun game
