I don’t play much avoidance so my diff ratings on those might be scuffed.
Clears list is all the games I played before I started reviewing them. I'm trying to slowly go through those and replay/review them all.
I review games based on how much I would recommend them to others. 0s are reserved for games I do not recommend for ethical reasons. This does not mean I have anything against people playing or enjoying those games.

I've always found dotkid to be one of the easiest gimmicks to make fun. Going through really tight gaps and doing double diamonds for free is just cool! I've rarely been disappointed by dotkid needle, but there are only a couple uses of it that feel more interesting and memorable. Pointillism has absolutely crowned that list.
The game starts pretty slow, and even later on there are many screens that are pretty basic, and thus less interesting. But I think this is a game that deserves to be evaluated on its standout screens. And there are several standouts!
I think the very best screens are the ones that have some interesting visual aspect. These play into the "art" theme the most, and actually feel like they belong in this museum. These range from simple but artistically designed visuals, such as the very first screen and the four seasons one, to interesting visual gimmicks, such as many of the symmetry screens and the recursive labyrinth. Given the theming, I am a bit disappointed that the game didn't lean into this kind of screen more, as it feels like what I expect from an art themed game.
The game also has some cool gimmick screens. My favorite here was one of the final screens, that involved solving a sliding tile puzzle. Overall though, gimmick screens were generally more interesting than the vanilla screens, and something I wish the game used a bit more of.
I also quite liked the multi-screen paintings. I think the added space gives a lot of opportunities for interesting design, both visually and in terms of gameplay. The well screen was one of my favorites, the pathing through this one was just really fun.
Overall, Pointillism is a game with some masterfully done screens. This highlights elevate the game, making it one of the most interesting needle games I've seen. My biggest complaints are that the game didn't do the good stuff more! I felt many of the screens were too conservative, and didn't really feel at home with the art theme. However, I would still absolutely recommend this game to most needle fans! Seeing dotkid used in so many interesting ways was super fun.

For: I Wanna Flee the Mansion: GAIDEN
An incredible short game centered around La-Mulana inspired cryptic puzzle solving. This is really just everything I love to see in a game. Every time I get to play a game like this I'm so happy. If anyone is reading this... please make more games in this style. Okay, enough obsessing over the genre.
The game itself is brilliantly put together. The flow of the rooms is really nice, with you always having a few different hints at once, with more opening up as you solve things. It rarely feels like you know exactly what to do next, you always have to figure out which of the available puzzles is able to be completed with what you have. Each solution is really clever, with lots of awesome "aha" moments, particularly if you go for the second ending. I never got frustrated trying to solve anything, the conclusions all felt natural, but not too easy.
The aesthetic of the game is great. I loved the wall paintings, they add a lot to make the game world feel developed. The manor references are all cute, and it's a great way to tie the game to the recipient.
In regards to the movement, I think that other review is completely unwarranted and not engaging with the game in good faith. The controls aren't even what I'd consider "bad". They're quite typical for older games, or anything from before modern movement focused precision platformers. Plus, it's a good decision to make the game feel unique, and to take the emphasis off the platforming. (Seriously, there's like one platforming segment in the entire game. Calling the game unplayable because of the controls is ridiculous).
Overall, a phenomenal game that really stands out as a unique puzzle solving experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this to fans of exploration and puzzle games. Despite its relatively short length, the game is super memorable and has a lot of clever and fun stuff.

A cute little adventure game, pretty impressive for a first game. I think the other reviews are doing the game a bit of a disservice by calling it a K3 clone. Yes, there is a medley stage, but there are two other stages as well!
The real highlight to me is the first stage, a trap stage. It's actually a pretty funny stage, better than 90% of the trap content in fangames. The traps were never obnoxious, while there were some simple filler traps, the saves were well placed (on medium at least) so that they didn't overstate their welcome. The game does a really good job with traps that trick the player, making you think you dodged something only to reveal you walked right into it. The usage of disappearing blocks was immaculate, these were all so funny.
Unfortunately I think the rest of the game was a downgrade. The medley used pretty unremarkable picks, with some really generic screens and traps. The needle stage was similarly generic. It was decent though, showing a good grasp of the fundamentals, making it better than many people's first needle. However, these stages were really unmemorable and uninteresting compared to the first. This also applies to the extra stage.
The bosses are fine, I think the apple has a bit too much health. I also found the pattern intro to the Guy fight to be boring. Both avoidances were fun, exactly what easy avoidance should be. These in particular were impressive for a first game.
Overall, this game had a really good trap stage that I would recommend playing. However, the rest of the game was kinda boring, so it gets much less of a recommendation.

A short beginner friendly needle game using pleasant black and white visuals. I always like the use of spike formations to make interesting visuals in this style. The gameplay is pretty standard, it's quite easy and I felt like the balance was consistent. I liked the red fake blocks. It was just a small thing, but it made those screens stand out a bit more.

For: TABOO
TABOO is a brilliant needle-venture game focusing on the idea of restrictions. It explores this in three distinct stages, each with a different take on the concept. You'll see restrictions imposed through strict rules, limiting fields, and blocks that affect how you jump off of them. Despite having the same core idea, each of these stages feels very different. I really liked how unique everything felt. I think the purple area was my favorite, it had the most interesting "puzzley" design, with some fun to figure out routing.
The game also features bosses, which are all pretty fun, ranging from simple to moderately complex. I enjoyed the evolving nature of the crusher boss, and the flower mage's clever use of gimmicks. The apple boss was frankly pretty simple, I don't really have any big thoughts about it. I should note that the flower mage was significantly harder than any other boss in the game, with a few attacks feeling frustratingly luck dependent. I still enjoyed the boss, and think it was the most interesting of the base three, but it could do with some extra health like the crusher boss.
The game ends with two different paths. I really liked the idea of having a choice here. The chaos path was my favorite, the randrandrand rooms were a clever way to use the gimmicks creatively. The order path has a more typical final area style of combining gimmicks for saves. It was interesting, but I think the difficulty was to its detriment. Not only is it much harder than the other path, but I felt like the difficulty was frustrating. Some saves had annoyingly precise jumps, and some were overlong, with slow beginnings you had to replay. The bosses were the opposite, with the order avoidance being much easier. This fight was my favorite in the game. All the attack ideas were so unique and interesting. I really wish it was harder and especially longer. The chaos boss is a good bit longer, and while it's decent, it was much less stand out.
My one complaint is that the game has a bit of a problem with difficulty balance. There were a few places where the hardest saves in an area were right at the beginning. Plus the aforementioned flower mage. I also felt like the hard saves were generally my least favorite. I think the difficulty kinda detracted from my enjoyment of the unique gimmicks. I think if the game stuck slightly lower around 55-60, it would remove the biggest pain points for me.
Overall though, this game is really cool. I would highly encourage fans of clever needle-venture play this one.
