For: I wanna break the Series Z 2
For: I wanna break the Series Z 2
This review is based on a 100% clear, although that doesn't change the ratings.
When I was of the ages 10-13 I was absolutely obsessed with Kamilia 3, I had seen videos of the gorgeous stage 5 bosses which truly touched me, and wanted to one day be good enough to play them myself. When I was at this age though, and even beyond it, I really loathed the series Z games. In my eyes Kamilia 3 was sacred in a sense, as silly it is to say, and I almost considered these games blasphemous to what was in my eyes, the ultimate fangame experience. I never wanted to touch them because it felt like they took everything I loved and still love about those games and spat on it, making a mockery of something I loved. Obviously this is rather extreme, but even as I matured I held quite a distaste for these games, but one fateful December night I got curious, as I tend to be. I wanted to try Z2, I knew it wouldn’t be too much of a commitment like Z3, and I just really wanted to know what it was like, because truth be told for how much I hated the Z games, I hadn’t seen that much of them.
Z2 is a very interesting game because it’s very clearly made from a place of love and admiration but from someone who for some reason, whether it be apathy or lack of experience, can not replicate what they liked about the original. The game blatantly steals game picks, screens, the structure of some bosses and the structure of the whole game from Kamilia 3 but basically pays no care to the actual gameplay. There are a lot of people even now who dismiss K3 because it does some silly things from time to time, even someone like me who loves the game can admit that, but there are moments of brilliance the game has and you get almost none of that here. However in spite of how lackluster the game is, there’s a certain charm to it. Like boss 3 isn’t even a medley boss, it is device miku with an avoidance intermission (inside an avoidance mind you). The needle is actual ass, it spams named jumps everywhere but it’s extremely menial to the experience compared to the bosses. Almost all of the bosses have laughably luck based attacks, it’s all very comical, to the point where the game is almost a spectacle to laugh at. I think the highlight for me was boss rush, it’s not great but the blue slime is so comically unfair I found it extremely entertaining, and the vocaloid fights were super chill. The weakest point of the whole thing might be the two bosses in the middle of stage 5, two vocaloid bosses which are really boring and mostly boil down to one or two key attacks. However in spite of how bad the game is, I think I kinda grew an appreciation for it. I would never play it again, and I wouldn’t even say playing it was a worthwhile experience, but I definitely don’t regret it, and in spite of the low rating my time with this game wasn’t really all that bad, for the most part at least.
I think the ultimate conclusion I drew from completing this game is that it’s kind of cool how clear the passion it took to make it is, like you don’t commit this hard to making “K3 Clones” unless you REALLY like the game, and that’s wholly relatable to me. At the bare minimum I don’t think I hate the series Z games anymore, it ultimately wraps around to what I said earlier. Z2 is a charming game.

A fun premise for a game, walking around a short loop of platforming screens and solving riddles. It's mostly enjoyable to solve, although a few a little obtuse in my opinion, it's not really a big deal because the game is so small there's only so many things to look at and do. I think my favorite part is the tetris puzzle, it's really cute. Fun game, holds your attention for it's short runtime.

Pretty fun collab game, I think the average stage is quite solid and there's good balance between the stages, some are shorter and some are longer but I think most people tended to make their stages on the harder side so in general it feels quite balanced. Not every stage is a total winner but a lot of people made interesting and cool stuff I had a lot of fun with. The stuff that stands out the most is probably Popop, Aroxon, and PlayerDash, but I don't think there were any stages I downright disliked. Fun game overall :)

Super cool premise for a game, it's a boss rush where you fight 4 cats which give you powers you'll need to defeat the final boss. I like the fights for the most part, I think the running issue with the game is maybe a lack of clarity on how some things work, most of which is alleviated if you know japanese. The powers you get are really fun to use, and the final boss uses them in fun ways, albeit it's maybe a bit long. I was quite impressed by this one, it's really engaging and fun!

Super quirky and charming, this game focuses on mostly boss fights, there are platforming sequences but besides the first one they are too notable, and they are quite fun. In particular the final boss is a really cool and decently lengthy fight which was really fun to play. The story is zany and all over the place, and the general atmosphere of the game is very distinct, similar to all of this maker's games! Definitely worth a shot, it's short enough you probably won't regret it.
