Very weird and sorta disjointed adventure game with lots of variety, so might as well talk about everything in chronological order. The first two stages are trap based adventure stages, I'm really not too big on them because I think they have a few too many traps, which I wouldn't mind if most of them weren't just killing you without really any interesting, throughout the game there's a few good ones but I'm not really big on this kind of trap gameplay. There's also two easy bosses which are kinda cute. The third stage of platforming ramps things up before the namesake of the game, the Bingo avoidance, which tripled my playtime (it took less than 40 minutes to reach and by the time I was done, I was nearly at 2 hours.) It's a decent avoidance, some of the patterns are kinda silly and instagibby and the RNG interlude in the middle is super annoying, but it's pretty alright.
So the game continues after this surprisingly, and the fourth stage is very odd. It starts with a stage which probably has the best traps in the game but again has too many for my taste especially since these saves are really long. After this comes a... really hard line needle thing? Like there's no gimmicks here it's just high 60s low 70s difficulty needle that's alright, I don't love it, especially that Indigo precision needle screen, but it's fine. The final avoidance is mostly good, but it has a lot of this one type of attack I can only explain by describing, where it's a basic barrage from the center, however it's pattern so while you can read it like RNG, it makes little attempts to pseudo-wall you, so you are better off memorizing visual cues which makes it kinda repetitive, it appears in a lot of older avoidances and like dagger/tsuta stuff. Besides that it's good, just a few minor complaints, which is how I describe the whole game. It's overall good but there's just a few things which hold it back in my opinion, and over an entire game those few things start to add up. It's still far from bad however, just not great.

Interesting game, there's one main gimmick holding everything together, the character swap mechanic, and the game uses it quite well. It makes for a very interesting game especially in the platforming department, but unfortunately the game loses this quality in the bosses which tend to be long, tedious, and annoying. They take up a pretty small part of playtime, so it's not a huge deal, but they definitely tank my rating a bit. Some of the saves are great, and there two puzzly areas which aren't my favorite thing in the world, I'm not a big fan of puzzle needle saves, but also the puzzles aren't that hard so it's not a huge deal, and I'm sure others will like them way more than me. Cool game, I like it a lot.

This review is based on the normal version without the speedrun friendly nerfs.
What a magnificent disaster of a game, I mean it seriously when I say this is by far the worst needle game I've played as of writing this review, but unlike crimson needle 2 which feels like an endless void of blandness and mild annoyance, this game feels like a train that crashed into a train which had already crashed into a 4 way train intersection. It's just such an incredible mess that it's almost admirable because at it's core you can find a game which deep down, has potential, and would bloom into far better games, but WOW was the execution wrong here. This game just Gish gallops the player with the most heinous and horrendous jumps you could find, ridiculously unbalanced saves, a disgusting amount of low double jumps for a game which disables numpad, and grindy jumps at the start of saves. Everything you can find in needle that I personally dislike can be found in spades in this game, and once you reach the 40s, all the cards are on the table. It's honestly impressive at times, it almost feels like an art piece, an exhibition of what needle can be like when you don't hold yourself back at all and throw everything at the wall to see what sticks. Not only is this my choice for the hardest CN game, it's also my vote for the worst. It's absolutely horrendous in the most beautiful way possible.

Considering this game has very few gimmicks throughout, and the ones it does have are a bit simplistic, it's absolutely jaw dropping that this game feels so creative in spite of that. So many unique jumps throughout this game give it a totally distinct feeling which has so much charm and passion that it can be felt throughout each and every save. Now not everything is a hit, there's a handful of annoying jumps and the difficulty balance is all over the place, but these minor negative points are easily offset by a game which radiates such a wonderfully unique atmosphere in both it's gameplay, music, and visuals. A masterpiece, albeit not a perfect one.

It's a pretty common opinion to absolutely love this game, but to me there's a very good reason to do so. I am NOT a fan of the first two crimson needle games, I think they tend to be annoying and frustrating, but calling this a crimson needle game is like calling the smart phone the sequel to the rotary phone, like yes the previous steps were needed to get here but we have advanced so far past the original idea it's basically it's own thing.
This game instead of sticking to needle with just water and vines as "gimmicks" has it's own set of unique concepts and ideas, such as shooting walls to get a double jump or blocks that bounce you up very high, these are combined with so many great and creative jumps. I mean it honestly when I say I think this game has no bad saves, every single thing in this game was some degree of enjoyable to me, and that is amazing for a game with THIS much content. Floor 31 on it's own is a master class of design in my opinion, so many creative ideas, great saves, a unique atmosphere throughout it all, and a great conclusion makes this one section just so good, but the content after is nothing to scoff at either.
After floor 31 there following 35 saves of needle are just fantastic, I like them all, some more than others for sure but there's a lot of highlights, and I would be remiss to not mention Floor 100, which is SUCH a good conclusion to this game. I feel like it's hard to verbalize just how much I like this game, but it's just so so so good, and I think it deserves nothing but a perfect rating. This is a needle masterpiece, and I will love this game forever. Amazing work, absolutely phenomenal.
